Question:
How do I make an appointment with a specialist?
Answer:
Please call (520-795-9955) to speak to a customer service representative who will connect you to one of our specialty department liaisons. The liaison will be able to schedule your appointment, help you with directions, and help answer your many of your questions. Whenever a liaison cannot answer your questions, a veterinary technician or the doctor will be consulted so that your inquiry is properly answered.

What should I bring to the consultation?
Answer:
  • A copy of your pet's medical records and current blood work. If you don’t have these items, our liaison will take care of requesting your pet’s medical record directly from your primary care veterinarian in time for your pet’s appointment.
  • Radiographs (if applicable)
  • Current Medications
  • Your pet

Question: What should I expect?
Answer:
New clients should arrive 20 minutes early to check in. A technician will obtain a brief medical history and your pet's vital signs. The veterinarian will examine your pet and discuss your pet's condition and further diagnostic and therapeutic options available. You will be provided with a cost estimate.

Should I withhold food and water from my pet prior to his/her appointment?
Answer:
Yes. Please withhold food (but NOT water) from your pet for 12 hours prior to the appointment. It is best if your pet has an empty stomach prior to the visit to prevent any interference with blood tests that might be run, or sedation if needed for xrays, or other tests. If your pet is diabetic, please ask the liaison for special feeding instructions at the time you make your appointment.

How long will my pet’s appointment take?
Answer:
Specialty Exams: Initial appointments usually take 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your pet’s condition. Recheck exams usually only take about 30 minutes. Emergency Exams: Just like human emergency rooms, our pet patients are triaged (examined in the order of the severity of their condition), so wait time will vary depending on how many pets require emergency care at the time of your visit.

What are the fees?
Answer:
The cost of veterinary care will vary depending on the care your pet needs, the length of stay and other medical concerns, such as the age or other conditions your pet may have. At the time of your visit, our doctors will discuss the best treatment options for your pet’s condition. We will provide you with a detailed estimate for your pet’s care at that time. Our goal is to work with you as a team to provide the best quality care for your pet at a reasonable cost and within your financial budget. Full payment is expected at the time services are rendered.

What happens if my pet has to be admitted into the hospital?
Answer:
You will be presented with an estimate, which includes a release giving us consent to treat your pet. A deposit of 75% of the estimated cost is required prior to any medical, surgical, or emergency care being provided. You will be personally updated by the attending veterinarian overseeing your pet’s care each day. You are welcome to visit your pet every day.

What is your visitation policy?
Answer:
Visiting hours are available from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm and 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm every day. To help us provide your pet with the highest quality medical care, we have scheduled visiting times that do not coincide with doctor or nurse rounds and/or standard treatment times. If you are unable to visit during these times, please contact your liaison to make special arrangements.

OUR VISITATION POLICY IS:
  • To minimize traffic and noise, only 2 visitors per family are permitted into ICU at any one time.
  • No children under 12 will be allowed in the ICU treatment area. Please contact the liaison prior to visiting if you have a child who wishes to visit your pet and special arrangements will be made.
  • Please stay in close proximity to your pet. For your safety, please do not try to handle or visit other patients or equipment in the intensive care unit.
  • Only 8 visitors total will be permitted in ICU at one time. Visitation is on a first come basis, therefore please sign in when your arrive to visit your pet. We will accommodate your request as quickly as possible.
  • Visitors should limit their visit to 20 minutes in consideration to others who wish to visit their pets.
  • The attending doctor has the authority to modify any visitation period during specific situations.
  • In the event of an emergency, you may be asked to vacate the ICU treatment area.
  • No cell phones or pagers will be allowed in ICU as these devices may interfere with our monitoring equipment.

Question:
What happens when it is time for my pet to be discharged from the hospital?
Answer:
We recommend that specialty practice patients be picked up during regular business hours, weekdays 8 am - 5pm. If you pick up your pet during hours other than those listed, we cannot assure you of having contact with the doctor or technician familiar with your pet's case history. Emergency patients can be picked up at any time; however, we do ask that you notify us as to your arrival time so that we can assure your pet will be ready.

What payment plans do we offer?
Answer:
VSCT offers a variety of options for payment:

  • Money Order
  • Cashier’s Check
  • Cash
  • Convenient financing is also available in most cases through CareCredit. Please ask one of our client service representatives or log on to www.carecredit.com.
If you are unable to meet our payment policy, please notify your doctor, technician or client service representative immediately so that other options may be explored for the continued care of your pet. Our primary concern is your pet’s health and we will work with you to find an appropriate payment solution.
